A déjà vu or a by-chance-lesson ?

Filed under: Misc — Izzy @ 3:54 pm

Yesterday, I went home without a moody clue of spending any moment to touch a piano. The store, to my surprise, is still open and Vinh told me to take over as his guitar students requested a late make-up class. Reluctantly, I accorded to put my fatigue aside to help him out linger on for while coz there would be soon a scheduled customer come by to pick a keyboard up, he insisted.

There came my random play on Beethoven’s Sonata No.14. I quite dislike the well-commercialized 1st movement and did not have the music sheet to go for the 2nd movement, thus could just practice the first few lines of 3rd movement. As my fingers burnt while doing some arpeggios and the pedaled sound turned out harsh on a crappy upright Kawai, I grew more and more impatient and frustrated.

“Don’t you know what is presto agitato like in Italian ?”, voiced out of nowhere a stranger. “Fastest possible !” me replied in questions of who is who. “Fast, to one’s best actually and certainly not over-caffeinated like you did”, the man started to demonstrate the first phrase G# C# E G# in incredible tempo with ease. We had conversation for an hour, best described as me schooled out by a top-notch master, while remaining anonymous to each other. Technically, I learned  a great deal from this amazing pianist yet the most thing I value out of this opportunity is his enthusiastic lecture on how to interpret the piece given a history of it.

It is hard for the mass media to accept the idea that the dazzling alias “Moonlight” has nothing to do with the theme of Beethoven’s Sonata No.14, which is genuinely inspired by the French revolution. And I felt damn groovy as the pace is no longer miles off my fingers now that I grab the revolutionary pattern of 3rd movement. His psychological spells really gave me a boost, or better say, an enlightening key.

At last, while I was energetically trying on his tips, my saint walked out of the store silently , just like the way he popped up, leaving me behind still unaware of his identity. Although the piece, as the only matter of fact explaining why he felt like helping ,  was his final grand performance in his bachelor study at National Conservatoire, I am still thrilled of how on earth I stepped on this kind of rendezvous. Fate ?
